Ancient Tyre was very wealthy because of it’s International commerce conducted on the Mediterranean Sea and it’s ability to produce a very expensive purple dye. God caused Nebuchadnezzar, the Babylonian King to destroy Tyre (modern day Lebanon) because its residents were happy over the fall of Jerusalem.
Ezekiel 26 tells us what happens to nations that are happy for Israel’s calamity. It says, “the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Son of man, because Tyre has said against Jerusalem, ‘Aha! She is broken who was the gateway of the peoples; now she is turned over to me; I shall be filled; she is laid waste.’ “Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Behold, I am against you, O Tyre, and will cause many nations to come up against you, as the sea causes its waves to come up…” Remain under God’s protection and support Israel!
Zephaniah 2 confirms this message:
“I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the insults of the people of Ammon, with which they have reproached My people, and made arrogant threats against their borders. 9 Therefore, as I live,”Says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, “Surely Moab shall be like Sodom, and the people of Ammon like Gomorrah—overrun with weeds and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation. The residue of My people shall plunder them, and the remnant of My people shall possess them.”
10 This they shall have for their pride, because they have reproached and made arrogant threats against the people of the Lord of hosts. 11 The Lord will be awesome to them, for He will reduce to nothing all the gods of the earth; people shall worship Him, each one from his place, indeed all the shores of the nations.
