Why should I be pro Israel? Here are a few reasons:
The Jewish people of Israel first came into the land in 2000 BC.
On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying:
“To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates— 19 the Kenites, the Kenezzites, the Kadmonites, 20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, 21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.” Genesis 15:18-21
God tells us in the Bible to support Israel. Here are a few places in the Bible that refer to His directive.
God blesses those who support Israel.
God says in Genesis 12:3: “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you. Psalm 122:6
God curses those who go against Israel.
In Isaiah 60:12, the bible warns us that “the nation and kingdom which will not serve you shall perish, and those nations shall be utterly ruined.”
Also the Lord your God will put all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you, who persecuted you.” (Deuteronomy 30:7)
When Rahab the harlot saw the spies in Jericho, “she came up to them on the roof, and said to the men: “I know that the Lord has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you. For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.” (Joshua 2:8-11)
“He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: ‘Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.'” (Psalm 2:4-6)
Proverbs 11:10 says: “When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices; And when the wicked perish, there is jubilation.” “But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me, And my Lord has forgotten me.” “Can a woman forget her nursing child, And not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.” (Isaiah 49:14-16)
The US has been blessed because of Israel.
Through Israel, the promises and covenants were given. Through them came the law, the prophets, and the Messiah who has opened up access to God for all, and through the Jewish apostles, the gospel first went to the nations. (Romans 9:4-5)
God’s promise to bring the Jews back to their land has been fulfilled.
“‘I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel, and they shall rebuild and inhabit the ruined cities;…I will plant them upon their land and they shall never again be plucked up out of the land which I have given them.’ says the Lord your God.” (Amos 8:14-15). “I will take the people of Israel from the nations among which they have gone, and will gather them from all sides and bring them to their land; and I will make them one nation in the land, upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king over them all.” (Ezekiel 37:21-22)
God calls us to help Israel.
In Isaiah Chapter 40 God speaks: “Comfort, comfort my people says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem and cry to her that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.” (Isaiah 40:1-2)
Government Should Give Provision for the Jews to Protect Themselves Against Those Who Want to Destroy Them
Isaiah 53
When Haman, the plotter against the Jews, was killed and the plot to kill them was thwarted –
“The Jews had light and gladness, joy and honor. And in every province and city, wherever the king’s command and decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a holiday.”
The king’s command and decree included a legal means for the Jews to protect themselves:
“the king permitted the Jews who were in every city to gather together and protect their lives—to destroy, kill, and annihilate all the forces of any people or province that would assault them, both little children and women, and to plunder their possessions, on one day in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar. A copy of the document was to be issued as a decree in every province and published for all people, so that the Jews would be ready on that day to avenge themselves on their enemies.”
Christians are called to comfort the Jewish people.
The leaders of the nations are prophesied and called to help the nation of Israel: “Thus says the Lord God: ‘Behold I will lift up my hand to the nations, and raise my signal to the peoples; and they shall bring your sons in their bosom, and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders. Kings shall be your foster fathers and their queens your nursing mothers.’” (Isaiah 49:22-23)
Gentiles don’t need to become Jews to be saved, just as Jews don’t need to become Gentiles to be saved. However, God used the Jews to spread the gospel to the Gentiles, and He expects the Gentiles, in return, to provoke the Jews to jealousy (Romans 11:11) by setting a good example, not by hating them. Antisemites bring nothing but shame upon the name of God when they claim to believe in Him.
God Will Protect Israel
“For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place.” (Esther 4:14)
“And it will come to pass at the same time, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” says the Lord God, “that My fury will show in My face.” “Thus I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.” (Ezekiel 38:18,23)
“For indeed, those who are far from You shall perish; You have destroyed all those who desert You for harlotry. But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all Your works.” (Psalm 73:27-28)
It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. (Psalm 118:8)
Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore. (Psalm 121:7-8)
“for the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.” (Deuteronomy 20:4)
“Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, and do not be still, O God! For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; and those who hate You have lifted up their head. They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, and consulted together against Your sheltered ones. They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more.” (Psalm 83:1-4)
“Remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure.’” (Isaiah 46:9-10)
“If it had not been the Lord who was on our side,”Let Israel now say— “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us, then they would have swallowed us alive, when their wrath was kindled against us” (Psalm 124:1-3)
For God will save Zion and build the cities of Judah, that they may dwell there and possess it. Also, the descendants of His servants shall inherit it, and those who love His name shall dwell in it. (Psalm 69:35-36)
Look among the nations and watch— be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days which you would not believe, though it were told you.” (Habakkuk 1:5)
“You will arise and have mercy on Zion; for the time to favor her, yes, the set time, has come.” (Psalm 102:13)
‘I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken it and performed it,’ says the Lord.” (Ezekiel 37:14)
When Balaam, the pagan diviner, was paid by Balak, the king of Moab, to pronounce a curse upon the people of Israel, he lifted up his oracle and said: ‘How shall I curse whom God hath not cursed? Or how shall I defy whom the Lord hath not defied?’ (Numbers 23:8)
“My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up. For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness, Nor shall evil dwell with You. The boastful shall not stand in Your sight; You hate all workers of iniquity. You shall destroy those who speak falsehood; The Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man. But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy; In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple. Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; Make Your way straight before my face.” (Psalm 5:3-8)
‘Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.’ (Jeremiah 17:7-8)
Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. (Habakkuk 3:17-18)
